The desire to move abroad isn’t just the distant dream of pensioners anymore, as two-thirds of Brits under the age of 40 are considering taking the leap.
High taxes, living costs, crime levels and a poor climate are all cited as reasons why 65% of younger Brits are hoping to find apartments for sale in the Algarve.
However, we think that people should consider moving abroad whatever their age. People take their birth date into account more than they need to when deciding whether to make a long term trip overseas, so we’ve compiled a list of why now is the perfect time – whatever age you are!
In Your 20s
Throughout your 20s, you’ve probably only just got yourself onto the career ladder, so now is the perfect time to find work abroad. It will help you to build character, could open up new and more exciting career paths, as well as aid your discovery of what it is you want from life.
Moving abroad while you’re young will set you up for a long and happy life where you know what it is you want to gain.
In Your 30s
By the time you’re 30 you may be married and with children, or you may not. Either way, embracing a change of location alongside big life changes will be a fulfilling experience for you and your family.
It could be that you’ve spent the last 10 years envying your friends who’ve jetsetted across the world. The turn of your 30th birthday shouldn’t prevent you from reaching for your dreams; it should encourage you to go for it!
You’re wiser, still have your health and probably have more cash to spare than you did in your twenties. If you do have children, taking them with you will introduce them to a different culture and way of life, making for a happier and more fulfilling life.
In your 40s and 50s
It’s never too late to learn new skills and challenge your perceptions about the world. You may have more freedom now if your children have gone off to university, or you may be considering taking them with you.
But the fact remains that if you’re reading this you’ve probably wanted to move for a number of years and so you should just go for it!
When you Retire
The great news is that you can still claim your pension when you move abroad, so why stay in your home town when you could spend your freedom days in the glorious Portuguese sun?
