Cevennes, Gard, Languedoc-Roussillon
UZ - 001 Description The castle has been converted and altered over the centuries and offers a wide range of possibilities. It could be a family home, a luxury B&B, a Restaurant or a small Hotel. The property has been partly restored. There are numerous outbuildings which could also be restored. The grounds are divided in 2 main areas. There is the surround of the château, protected by very high stone walls and therefore nicely situated on a hilltop. There is the entrance and a very charming 400m² courtyard surrounded by the walls of a former 130m² orangerie as well as a second courtyard. The rest of the grounds are on a lower level including century old trees, fruit trees, and a bambooserie. Rooms on the ground floor are exceptional with beautiful vaulted high ceilings, mosaic floors and marble fireplaces. The imposing staircase with the glass dome in the middle of the building completes the majestic feeling. The Gîte with 5 bedrooms provides independent accommodation. The château offers in total about 800m² habitable space over 3 floors. The attic is very high and another floor could be incorporated to gain about another 150m², subject to usual consents. The upper floors are in need of renovation. The Tower It was 50m high in medieval times, but only 25m has survived over the centuries. All together there are 7 levels of about 17m², and on the roof you will find a terrace of 50m² with a stunning 360° dominating view. Gîte The former 'Bergerie' has been converted into a 5 bedroom independent apartment. Outbuildings The former farm buildings which are in ruins have been built in a U-shape. There is a 100m² vaulted cave. Grounds The grounds of almost 1 ha are divided into 2 levels. The Castle has been built on a hilltop supported by huge stone walls offering a dominating view. This part is entirely fenced. The lower level has been left wild with century old trees, fruit trees, and a bambooserie. A spring offers free water for a future pool and watering system.
